EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT!

With all the turmoil in the news about children and their rights, we felt this was the perfect time to post this important statement from the United Nations.

ALL CHILDREN DESERVE THESE RIGHTS, regardless of their nationality, economic situation, or where they find themselves at any given time.

This is the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child
Whereas the United Nations has, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaimed that everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth therein, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status,

Whereas the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth,

Whereas mankind owes to the child the best it has to give,

Now therefore, The General Assembly Proclaims this Declaration of the Rights of the Child to the end that he may have a happy childhood and enjoy for his own good and for the good of society the rights and freedoms herein set forth, and calls upon parents, upon men and women as individuals, and upon voluntary organizations, local authorities and national Governments to recognize these rights and strive for their observance by legislative and other measures progressively taken in accordance with the following principles:

EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT:
  • TO AFFECTION, LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING.
  • TO ADEQUATE NUTRITION AND MEDICAL CARE.
  • TO FREE EDUCATION.
  • TO FULL OPPORTUNITY FOR PLAY AND RECREATION.
  • TO A NAME AND NATIONALITY.
  • TO SPECIAL CARE, IF HANDICAPPED.
  • TO BE AMONGST THE FIRST TO RECEIVE RELIEF IN TIMES OF DISASTER.
  • TO LEARN TO BE A USEFUL MEMBER OF SOCIETY AND TO DEVELOP INDIVIDUAL ABILITIES.
  • TO BE BROUGHT UP IN A SPIRIT OF PEACE AND UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD.
  • TO ENJOY THESE RIGHTS, REGARDLESS OF RACE, COLOR, SEX, RELIGION, NATIONAL OR SOCIAL ORIGIN.

  1. Thank you for posting the UN's Declaration of Children's Rights and reminding everyone, especially parents, that the sacred duty of a good parent is to accept the utmost commitment when one becomes a parent, and that is the responsible and decent act of raising children.
    Great post!
