The lessons of team sports are lost when every strikeout or dropped catch is greeted with "Great try!" Kids need to learn that sometimes they win and sometimes they lose. The difference between the two is usually obvious, and to tell losers they're winners just screws them up. Yes, losing is part of learning and kids who are told they're never losers know they're being lied to. I've seen these well-meaning cheerleaders build older kids with low self-esteem who distrust compliments and aren't ever sure when they're doing well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4978527004944932980.post-41078272694410841182014-02-19T10:42:55.205-08:002014-02-19T10:42:55.205-08:00And - learning to be a decent loser is also as imp...And - learning to be a decent loser is also as important as being a good winner. Few of us get gold medal wins but most of us can have really good "I made it" experiences. We also are going to have to weather the times when we not only don't achieve a medal but cannot even make the cut. The appropriate learning is taking in the information - win or lose - and applying it to our futer behaviours. jafladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12175301509730688698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4978527004944932980.post-72898463649857179382014-02-19T10:39:07.729-08:002014-02-19T10:39:07.729-08:00I despise the current collection of mean spirited ...I despise the current collection of mean spirited reality shows. I think it teaches only very wrong messages to our entire society and reduces empathy for others. I would like to see them all in the trash bin - replaced by the celebration of people trying to achieve goals through positive actions. Especially through good teamwork. These are the lessons we all need. jafladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12175301509730688698noreply@blogger.com
